Schedule of events for “winds across the pecos” 2024
7:45 am Reveille and raising of the flag
8:00 am Breakfast at the chuck wagons
8:30 am Gates open to the public, breakfast at the chuckwagons for the public FREE PARKING
8:30 am to 1:00 pm School visits begin. Half of students at main tent, half at flagpole area, followed by Comanche dancers and (central flagpole area) Students then split into smaller groups to visit re-enactor camps.
9:00 am Welcome
Cannon fire and other static displays (teepees, chuckwagons, stage coach, mule teams) throughout the day
12:00 noon Lunch at the chuckwagons for the public
12:40 pm Gun slinger shootout (central flagpole area) followed by gathering of school kids at cannon for mass firing.
1:00 pm School buses load for return
1:30 pm Comanche dancers (central flagpole area)
2:00 pm Main Tent Speaker: History and Archaeology of Horsehead Crossing by Tom Ashmore
3:00 pm Horsehead Crossing Walking Tours with Tom Ashmore (starts at main tent) - Women’s Tea Time- main tent
3:30 pm Gun Slinger Shootout (central flagpole area)
4:25 pm Comanche dancers (central flagpole area)
6:00 pm Dinner at the chuck wagons for the public

Saturday, October 26th

9:00 am Welcome by Kirby Warnock, followed by Comanche dancers (central flagpole area)

9:30 am Texas Confederate Soldiers memorial service for those who died at Horsehead Crossing (at Confederate Memorial)
9:30 am Trail ride begins for those who brought horses, sponsored by Texas Trail Riders Association
10:30 am History and archeology of Horsehead Crossing by Tom Ashmore (main tent)
11:30 am Horsehead Crossing Walking Tours with Tom Ashmore (starts at main tent)
12:00 pm Lunch at the chuckwagons for the public
12:15 pm Main tent: 18-minute historical/archeological video on Butterfield Stage Trail from Fort Chadbourne to Fort Stockton (West Texas Archeological Society)
12:40 pm Gun slinger shootout (central flagpole area)

2:00 pm History of Horsehead Crossing, Castle Gap and the Pecos River, a discussion with author Patrick Dearen, moderated by Kirby Warnock (main tent)
